Dos and Don’ts

Inkjet prints on acetate, overhead projectors, 2011 Dimensions variable

This is new version of an earlier series of works (still ongoing), now using overhead projectors.
All boards display iconic artworks or iconic artists at work, (the obvious Dos) alongside images that really aren’t (the Don’ts). While it’s very easy to grasp with one glance what’s going on, it becomes gradually much harder to explain or justify to oneself what it is that made the Dos pillars of Art history, the more one looks at what these boards are displaying. Although the work is clearly acknowledging which one is which, the challenge becomes really about pointing out why.
