Something borrowed, something blue.

Super8 projection 2’30”, looper. Ink and watercolour on paper 42x29.7cm (x2), 2006-07

In Something borrowed, Something blue the colour of a goldfish has been changed to its opposite in the colour spectrum: Yves Klein Blue. The film shows the fish’s temporary transformation using pure methylene blue, the pigment used in IKB which is also commonly used as a disinfectant in aquaculture. The drawings are copies of Matisse’s The Goldfish Bowl, one with accurate colours, the other inverted.
The title, of course rhymes with “something old, something new” which is a wink to the La Mariée(...) idea of new from old.
