Obliging Appearances

A series of small to medium installative works involving broken furniture, found TVs, surveillance cameras and live-feeds from pages on interior design magazines.
The TVs rest askew on the pieces of wonky furniture, while the “correct” verticality is regained through various flower bouquets as they are featured in the magazines’ depicted interiors. These flower arrangements are captured by CCTV cameras rigged on long-armed tripods, to appear levelled when relayed to the TV screens.
The two clusters—cameras/magazines and furniture/TVscreens—are connected thanks to a single meandering cable: an umbilical cord of sorts which could just as easily be read as a ball and chain, transmitting a normative rectitude although veiled as fragrant, decorative and seemingly innocuous dosmetic fixture.
The spectators are free to wander in and around the set-up—and, depending on the flooring, their footsteps may make the cameras tremble slightly, sending tremors on the screens.

Installation with found objects, surveillance cameras, and interior design magazines. Dimensions variable, 2025.
